"And it is told of Maglor that he could not endure the pain with which the Silmaril tormented him; and he cast it at last into the Sea, and thereafter he wandered ever upon the shores, singing in pain and regret beside the waves."
One of my favorite characters from the Silm. I always pictured a rather bedraggled Maglor who had been wandering for some time, so I decided to paint him that way.
On a less serious note, though I like this pose, I had to think of the alternate titles "Fëanorian Facepalm" and "First Age Problems".
I really love the textures in this painting: the unwashed, matted hair, the frayed cuffs and knees of his dirty clothing (which have really nice details in the trims!) and the texture of the sand. It is heartbreaking to see an elf so broken so as to allow himself to reach this state, they are supposed to be so beautiful. Well done!
Wow, thanks! You're too kind. That's just the feeling I wanted to convey and I really got into painting the textures, so hearing those things praised means a lot!
