Maglor by HazelFibonacci Maglor by HazelFibonacci
"And it is told of Maglor that he could not endure the pain with which the Silmaril tormented him; and he cast it at last into the Sea, and thereafter he wandered ever upon the shores, singing in pain and regret beside the waves."

One of my favorite characters from the Silm. I always pictured a rather bedraggled Maglor who had been wandering for some time, so I decided to paint him that way.

On a less serious note, though I like this pose, I had to think of the alternate titles "FŽanorian Facepalm" and "First Age Problems". ;)

"Feanorian Facepalm"... rofl

It suits Maedhros better, but I still imagine Maglor as occasionally facepalming whenever he wakes up from singing. *coughcoughNargothrond*

Anyways, to get back on track, I like this picture a lot, especially the detail paid to his clothes and his hair. Excellent work!

I really love the textures in this painting: the unwashed, matted hair, the frayed cuffs and knees of his dirty clothing (which have really nice details in the trims!) and the texture of the sand. It is heartbreaking to see an elf so broken so as to allow himself to reach this state, they are supposed to be so beautiful. Well done!

Wow, thanks! You're too kind. That's just the feeling I wanted to convey and I really got into painting the textures, so hearing those things praised means a lot!

I'm in the "rather bedraggled Maglor" school as well, so this was a very refreshing difference to other artwork depicting him while wandering - even though there are beautiful, beautiful artworks in that as well. But bedraggled, to me, makes a lot more sense.

And the alternate titles - :D! He's going to be a lucky camper (literally, heh) if his problems don't extend beyond the First Age. ;)

(And all in all, I just want to give everyone's favourite kinslayer a big hug, especially with pictures like this.)

Thanks so much! I was very impressed by your portrayal of Maglor - the vision of his brothers is a brilliant idea and it is such a powerfully emotional image. I'm honored that you liked mine!
